2nd Grade - Lessons 21-30

2nd graders will develop number sense with these multi-media interactive exercises and simulated manipulatives that connect math to the real world. Math 2nd Grade covers the full curriculum and works to build children's conceptual understanding, which is critical for building problem-solving skills. Lessons 21-30 teach kids how to apply tens and ones to subtract up to 100 and introduce the 100s place value.

- Subtract up to 100 using place values
- Decompose 10 to subtract up to 100
- Learn place values for numbers up to 1000
- Skip count by 10 or 100 for numbers up to 1000

This Launchpad contains the following apps:

2nd Grade Lesson 21 - Skip Count by 100
Count forward by groups of 100. Kids engage in fun connect-the-dot exercises that will reveal food such as a pear, hot dog, and s'more. Kids help a frog jump across lily pads by choosing the correct numbers. By practicing counting in groups, kids will develop their understanding of hundreds place value.

2nd Grade Lesson 22 - Subtract Ones up to 100
Use base-10 houses and cubes to subtract in the ones place value. Kids follow a sequence of subtraction equations to find a path through the 100s chart. These exercises build upon previous learning by working with numbers up to 100.

2nd Grade Lesson 23 - Subtract Tens and Ones
Practice subtraction at both the tens and ones place value. Without regrouping, kids use base-10 cubes to find the difference between two numbers. These games require kids to perform multiple steps to solve the problem.

2nd Grade Lesson 24 - Decompose 10 to Sub (a)
Kids use base-10 cubes and houses to decompose numbers in the tens place value in order to subtract in the ones place value. After working with manipulatives to visualize the concept, solving equations in vertical form allows kids to work with abstract numbers.

2nd Grade Lesson 25 - Skip Count by 10
Count forward by groups of 10. Kids engage in fun connect-the-dot game to reveal sea creatures such as starfish, octocpus, and crab and fill in the missing number in a sequence between 100-1000. By practicing counting in groups, kids will relate counting on by 10 to addition.

2nd Grade Lesson 26 - Multi-op Add up to 100
Strengthen addition fluency by adding multiple numbers up to 100. Kids add numbers using a clothes-themed number line and help penguin bounce his way into the pool by combining multiple operands. Finding a pirate treasure, or rescuing the kitty games allow kids to combine their previous learning to increase understanding of the 100s chart.

2nd Grade Lesson 27 - Multi-op Sub up to 100
Stregthen subtraction fluency by subtracting multiple numbers up to 100. Kids subtract numbers on a monkey vine and help little penguin move forwards and backwards on his trampolines. By practicing multi-operand equations, kids will develop math fluency.

2nd Grade Lesson 28 - Skip Count by 5
Count forward by groups of 5. Kids engage in fun connect-the-dot exercises to reveal pictures of tractors, planes, and bikes. These exercises help kids extend the counting sequence and build a foundation for working in multiples of numbers.

2nd Grade Lesson 29 - Add or Sub up to 100
This lesson includes addition and subtraction of numbers up to 100. The kids write on the touch screen with their finger to add or subtract numbers in both ones and tens place value.

2nd Grade Lesson 30 - Place Values up to 1000
In these games, kids place 100s cubes on grids to represent numbers up to 1000. The exercises visually show how numbers relate by ones, tens and hundreds to build further understanding of place value.
